About this service

The most important investment a leader can make is in their own capacity to lead well.

Coaching with Rise Up Leadership Consulting is not a performance improvement plan. It is not a remediation tool. It is a high-level, confidential thinking partnership designed for leaders who are already doing serious work and want to do it better — with more clarity, more confidence, and more strategic intentionality than the pace of the job normally allows for. Every session is a conversation built around what is actually happening in your building, your district, or your cabinet right now. You bring the situation; we work through it together, with research-grounded strategy and honest perspective on the table in equal measure.

Dr. Diana Roybal has held every role she coaches on. She has been the first-year principal who did not know what she did not know. She has been the central office leader managing multiple competing priorities with a team that is stretched too thin. She has been the superintendent who had to stand in front of a board during difficult times throughout the year and still find a way to move the work forward. That experience is not biography — it is the foundation of every coaching conversation. When she offers a perspective or a framework or a challenge, it comes from someone who has navigated exactly the kind of terrain you are in right now.

Aspiring Principals

Build confidence, leadership identity, and genuine readiness for the principalship through structured coaching conversations and practical, scenario-based skill-building. Many aspiring leaders know the theory of instructional leadership but have not yet had the chance to develop the instincts that come from applying it under pressure. Coaching closes that gap before you are standing in front of a staff on the first day of school trying to close it in real time.

Principals

Navigate complex school culture challenges, difficult personnel decisions, instructional leadership demands, and team development with a trusted thought partner who is not part of your district’s politics. Principals carry an unusual amount of weight in relative isolation — coaching provides the space to think out loud, stress-test your decisions, and develop the leadership habits that make the hard days more sustainable and the good days more intentional.

Central Office Leaders

Lead coherent, aligned district initiatives and manage the particular complexity of systems-level leadership, where every decision ripples across dozens of buildings, hundreds of teachers, and thousands of students at once. Central office work requires a different kind of leadership than site-based work — coaching helps leaders make that transition with clarity and build the influence skills that move a system without direct authority over the people doing the work.

Superintendents

Executive-level coaching focused on board relations, community leadership, strategic vision, cabinet development, and — critically — sustaining your own effectiveness and wellbeing across a career that rarely lets you fully clock out. The superintendency is one of the most consequential and most isolating leadership roles in American public life. Coaching provides the trusted, confidential space that the role makes almost impossible to find anywhere else.

What to expect

How coaching with Rise Up actually works.

Coaching sessions are one hour, scheduled at a cadence that fits your calendar — weekly, biweekly, or monthly depending on your needs and the intensity of what you are navigating. There is no minimum commitment. Many leaders begin with a single session to assess the fit before deciding on a longer engagement. Sessions are available virtually or in person across the Colorado Front Range, with flexible scheduling that accommodates the reality of a school leader’s calendar.

Each session begins with what is on your mind right now — not an agenda set weeks in advance. Between sessions, Diana may send relevant research, frameworks, or reflection prompts when they are genuinely applicable to what you are working through. Everything shared in coaching is held in strict confidence. Nothing leaves the conversation without your explicit permission. The goal is not to produce a report about you. The goal is to produce a clearer, more capable version of you.

Why coaching

The ROI of investing in your own leadership capacity.

Leadership in education is one of the most complex, high-stakes, and consistently under-supported jobs in American public life. Principals are expected to be instructional leaders, human resources managers, community relations directors, crisis responders, and data analysts simultaneously. Superintendents are expected to lead organizations of hundreds of people through constant change while managing board relationships, community expectations, state accountability systems, and the relentless urgency of students whose school years do not pause for strategic planning. The pace of the job makes it almost impossible to think clearly about the job. Coaching creates the space to do that thinking.
Research on leadership coaching consistently shows that coached leaders make better decisions, develop their teams more intentionally, navigate conflict more constructively, and sustain their own effectiveness longer than their uncoached peers. They also report significantly higher job satisfaction and lower burnout rates — a finding that matters not just for the leaders themselves but for the schools and districts they lead, which are stronger when the person at the top is not running on empty. Investing in coaching is not a sign that something is wrong. It is a sign that a leader is serious about getting the work right.

Investment: $–/hour. No minimum commitment. Billed per session. Virtual sessions available to leaders nationally. In-person sessions available across the Colorado Front Range at no additional travel cost.
