About Diana

Educator. Leader. Advocate.

Dr. Diana Roybal, Ed.D. is a career educator, executive coach, Maxwell-certified leader, and author whose life’s work centers on a single, hard-won belief: courageous leadership transforms schools, and schools transform lives. She didn’t arrive at that belief in a graduate seminar. She arrived at it by living the alternative first.

Her story

Leading with the heart of an educator and the strategy of an executive.

She did not grow up touring college campuses. She grew up visiting a maximum-security prison, where her father was incarcerated. The barriers she faced as a child mirror the ones many students face today: unstable housing, poverty, repeated school transfers, academic struggle, and violence. By any statistical measure that predicts outcomes for students, Diana should not be standing where she is today.

But educators opened doors that changed her trajectory — teachers who saw something in her before she could see it in herself, counselors who refused to let “remedial” be the final word on her potential. That belief, extended to her at exactly the moments she needed it most, became the foundation for everything that followed: a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, an educational specialist degree, and eventually a doctorate in educational leadership.

Over the next three decades, Dr. Roybal served as a teacher, a principal, a central office leader, and a superintendent — leading systems through complex transitions, raising achievement, strengthening equity, and building the kind of cultures where students, families, and educators don’t just survive the school year but actually thrive in it.

As Superintendent of Goleta Union School District, she significantly improved literacy and math achievement, strengthened safety systems, expanded equity-focused professional development, and built community partnerships that continue shaping the district today. Her leadership legacy there — “The Power of Belief Creates a Future of Hope” — remains a guiding force in the community years later.

In Cherry Creek School District, she served first as Executive Director of Elementary Education and later as Assistant Superintendent of Performance Improvement, overseeing curriculum and instruction, assessment and performance analytics, strategic planning, Title I programming, and district-wide professional learning. She coached and mentored leaders across multiple states and led large-scale initiatives in equity, engagement, and instructional improvement — the kind of work that doesn’t make headlines but reshapes a district’s trajectory over a decade.

A respected presenter, adjunct professor, and award-winning leader, Dr. Roybal has been recognized by the California State Assembly and the U.S. Congress for her contributions to education. But ask her what she’s proudest of, and she won’t point to an award — she’ll point to a principal she coached through their hardest year who didn’t quit.

Her Brand Essence — Elevation. Courage. Equity. Hope. — isn’t a tagline crafted by a marketing team. It’s a lived philosophy that shapes every coaching session, keynote, and consulting engagement she takes on.

John C. Maxwell Certified Coach

As a Maxwell-certified coach, Dr. Roybal brings one of the world’s most recognized leadership development frameworks directly into educational contexts — helping leaders grow from the inside out, develop the people on their teams, and build organizations strong enough to outlast their own tenure. It’s a structured way of helping leaders see their own blind spots and build habits that compound into real, lasting capacity.

Leadership is not a title. It is the daily decision to show up with courage, serve with humility, and never stop learning — for the sake of the students counting on us.
